Last month, we launched the Helping Hand initiative to raise funds for our charity, the Grand Almoner’s Fund. In our quest to fulfill our Masonic obligation of caring for our members, the Grand Almoner’s Fund was established to support Brothers in need and in its lifetime has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars in assistance to Masons across the jurisdiction.

Over the course of the last four weeks, we’ve shared touching stories from members whose lives and hearts have been touched by the work of the Grand Almoner’s Fund. We read Sovereign Grand Commander David A. Glattly’s reflection on his first experience soliciting support for a Brother whose home and family were devastated following Hurricane Irene. Another Brother shared his gratitude for the assistance he received from our charity during his darkest hour. Last week, we heard the story of a Masonic widow who prayed to God for help and found the Scottish Rite at her doorstep.

These stories are just a sample of the impact your donations to the Grand Almoner’s Fund have on fellow Masons and their families. There are countless others like the ones we’ve shared during the Helping Hand initiative and there will surely be many more to come.

At the start of the Helping Hand initiative, we set a goal to raise $100,000 for the Grand Almoner’s Fund. Because of your selflessness and kind generosity, we were able to surpass that goal and raise $113,952! In the video below, Sovereign Grand Commander David A. Glattly shares his gratitude for your efforts over the last four weeks.

As the Commander mentioned, our work does not stop here. The Grand Almoner’s Fund is available to support Brothers year-round and as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, we expect the number of requests to rise over the next several months. We encourage Borthers who have the means to continue to support their brethren through the Grand Almoner’s Fund by giving a one-time or recurring donation at DonateRite.org.

Thank you for your continued support of our Scottish Rite charities and, specifically, The Grand Almoner’s Fund. Every dollar you contribute directly benefits your fellow Masons, making an impact in the lives of Brothers all across the jurisdiction, from Wisconsin to Maine.
