This fall, the Scottish Rite, NMJ is honoring our first responders. Our Brothers who serve and save others truly exemplify our core value of Service to Humanity. From the September 11 attacks to the COVID-19 global pandemic, first responders have always been the front-line heroes of our communities. Each week, we’ll be sharing their stories and celebrating their service.
Meet Brother Jeffrey Kemp, 32°: Police Officer and Crisis Intervention Specialist

Today, we’re sharing the story of Brother Jeffrey Kemp from the Valleys of Greenfield and Springfield.
Brother Kemp began his career as a police officer, serving the Pittsfield, Massachusetts Police Department as a Patrol Officer and Emergency Medical Technician from 1988 to 2015. During his career, he served as an assistant to the Identification Bureau, helping collect fingerprints and photos at crime scenes, as well as a mountain bike officer.

During his time with the Pittsfield Police Department, Brother Kemp specialized in serving elders at risk. He was also part of the Safe Housing Task Force acting as the logistics officer for the Special Response Team. Later, he became certified in crisis intervention training and mental health crisis management, following his passion for working with the community and building on his experience in emergency situations.
As a result of his contributions to his community, Brother Kemp was named EMS Police Officer of the Year in 2009 by the Emergency Services of Berkshire County and Police Officer of the Year in 2010 by the Pittsfield Police Association. He has also earned several life-saving medals, among other awards.
When he’s not protecting his community, you can find Brother Kemp continuing to give back, serving as a Board of Directors member for several nonprofits.
