The Valley of Detroit in Dearborn, Michigan had something very special up their sleeve this past November to honor and celebrate Scottish Rite Month and give back to their community. The images below tell the beautiful story about helping seniors, creating happy moments, and donating money for a very friendly (and furry) gift.
On November 29th, representatives from the Valley of Detroit traveled to Masonic Pathways, a continuing care retirement center in Alma, Michigan, to visit the residents. Sovereign Prince Mark Newton, Senior Warden Chris Morgan, 1st Lt. Commander Brian Brown, and Deputy of Michigan Walt Wheeler attended the event where they presented a check to Mike Logan, the CEO of Masonic Pathways. The check was given to Mike to enable the center to purchase Shelby, a therapy dog for the residents. The therapy dog was on a wish list of items from the home to help the residents maintain a healthy lifestyle--and add some extra joy to their daily routines.
The Masonic Pathways was founded in 1891 in East Grand Rapids, Michigan and was relocated to Alma in 1911. The non-for-profit continuing care retirement community offers independent and assisted living, short-stay rehabilitation, skilled nursing, and memory care services to over 400 residents, including Masons and non-Masons.
The home was founded by Michigan Mason John D. Jennings of Grand Rapids. He recognized a need within the Masonic fraternity for a friendly and caring environment where Masons could receive excellent care during their retirement years. Their mission statement is “inspired by the true spirit of Freemasonry, we enhance lives.”
The true spirit of Freemasonry was alive and well when Shelby, all wags and licks, met her new caretakers, owners, and friends. Thank you to the Valley of Detroit for spreading the Masonic light this holiday season and thank you to everyone who participated in Scottish Rite Month.
