In 2017, the Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite commissioned the most comprehensive, data-driven analysis of the Scottish Rite and Freemasonry in more than 20 years. The results of that study are outlined by former Sovereign Grand Commander John Wm. McNaughton in his the seminal work, Reclaiming the Soul of Freemasonry.
The book formed the strategy that helped guide Scottish Rite on what we call The Path Forward. Among the many things learned, this effort crystalized three important elements that forge our path forward:
- WE WILL increase our engagement with members of the Scottish Rite.
- WE WILL embrace technology to further engagement in between the times that we see our Brothers in person.
- WE WILL become a strong and clear voice for Freemasonry, working with all Brethren to attract good men to the craft, and in turn, 32° Scottish Rite Freemasonry.
In an effort to advance point #3, our "Not Just a Man. A Mason." campaign was born. Through this campaign, we offer a complete suite of marketing assets and resources for our fellow blue lodges across the country to take advantage of -- all for free.
The billboard pictured above is just one example of the ways that blue lodges are leveraging these valuable resources. We offer a variety of different collateral, usages, and sizes and can customize the ads with Grand Lodge seals, urls, and calls to action as requested. The customization is done and the digital download is provided free of charge.
So far, more than half the US states—and three provinces in Canada—are using The Path Forward print campaign and the Even Better video. We're really proud of this strategic initiative that is invigorating Freemasonry from coast to coast, and with our neighbors to the north.

As previously mentioned, the campaign materials from our Path Forward initiative are being used widely throughout the United States and Canada. Here are examples of how the images and messages are being employed in Wisconsin, Manitoba, Rhode Island and more. And those are just a few! The branding looks fresh and modern on websites and the smart messaging speaks to our values in ways that appeal to potential applicants — and reinvigorates pride in all members.
We're continuing with great optimism to work hard to help Freemasonry and the Scottish Rite increase the visibility, impact, and influence the Craft has long deserved. Our latest campaign known as "Journey On," is a testament to that, and serves as the next step in our path forward. Launched in 2022, Journey On is our anthemic campaign for the Scottish Rite, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction. It is meant to inspire current members to reconnect with reconnect with what it means to be a Scottish Rite Mason, and at the same time, introduce Blue Lodge Masons to our organization.
Like our "Not Just a Man. A Mason." assets, our Journey On campaign materials are completely free and customizable, and are being leveraged across the United States to continue to advance our mission and highlight our Scottish Rite Core Values.
Our Path Forward is quite clear: we will continue to help Freemasonry grow by increasing our visibility -- but we can't do it without the help of our Valleys, lodges, and partners. Share our marketing materials at your next lodge event, on social media, or even on a highway billboard. Journey On!
