New to the Scottish Rite? This guide breaks down what Reunions are, what degrees are presented, and how these gatherings help deepen your Masonic journey.
Every fall and spring, Scottish Rite Reunion season arrives. For candidates and new Brothers, these gatherings can be both exciting and unfamiliar. This guide will help you understand what Reunions are, what to expect, and how to make the most of your first experience.
What Is a Scottish Rite Reunion?
Most Valleys host “Reunions” each spring and fall, events where Scottish Rite Brothers gather to continue their Masonic journey by witnessing one or a few of our degrees. These experiences offer a deeper look into the moral teachings and timeless philosophy that define Freemasonry.
Reunions are also a time for fellowship, bringing together Brothers from nearby communities to connect and share in the Scottish Rite experience. During breaks between degree performances, refreshments and informal conversations offer the perfect opportunity to meet fellow Valley members, ask questions, and begin forming the lifelong bonds that make this fraternity unique.
Witnessing the Scottish Rite Degrees
Scottish Rite degrees are elaborate plays, often staged with costumes, scenery, special effects, and the full rigging of a dramatic production. These presentations convey Masonic philosophy in memorable, moving ways, helping members reflect on our Core Values and their role in improving themselves and the world around them.
For accepted applicants (also known as candidates), Reunions also serve as the gateway into Scottish Rite membership. By witnessing the 4°, a requisite for membership, you’ll officially become a Scottish Rite Mason. From there, you can continue your progression toward the 32° by attending additional degree presentations, including the 32° itself.
Attend a Reunion
Reunions are held every spring and fall across the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction. To find a Valley near you and view upcoming degree dates, click here. Once you select your preferred event, use the contact information shown on the Valley page to contact the Valley Secretary and save your spot.
In addition to Reunions, members can witness degrees online through Thursday Night at the Rite (TNR), a seasonal virtual program that runs each spring.
Accepted applicants can attend Join the Rite Night just before each TNR session to witness the 4° and officially become members, unlocking access to each evening’s TNR degree and future TNR events.
