For Brother Andrew Roberts, 32°, HGA, Reunion season is more than witnessing degrees; it’s about connection, family, and the Brotherhood that continues to grow with every gathering.

Reunion season holds a special place in the hearts of Scottish Rite Masons across the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction (NMJ). It’s a time when Brothers reconnect, witness degrees, and celebrate the shared values that define our fraternity.

Brother Andrew Roberts, 32°, HGA, reflects on his earliest memories, the moments that stand out most, and how every Reunion continues to strengthen the bonds of Brotherhood.

What was your first Reunion experience like?

My first Reunion was the day I joined the Scottish Rite. My Valley hosted a one-day class in honor of Illustrious Stephen Park, 33°. From the start, the experience was welcoming. My Valley Brothers made sure I felt included, explained what was happening, discussed the degrees with me after they were conferred, and showed genuine fellowship during the reception.

What is your favorite part of Reunions?

The best part of Reunion season is coming together with Brothers from near and far. Coming from a Masonic district with twenty Lodges, it can be hard to see everyone often. Reunions bring us together as one Valley, reminding us of the unity and shared purpose that define Scottish Rite Masonry.

What is your fondest Reunion memory?

My favorite memory is surprising my dad at my first Reunion. I told him I couldn’t make it and kept that up for weeks. Walking into the room and seeing the look of surprise on his face was priceless and unforgettable.

What would you tell a Brother attending his first Reunion?

Don't be a wallflower. It can be easy to stay quiet if you’re new or don’t know many Brothers, but step out of your comfort zone. Talk to a Brother you haven’t met, volunteer where help is needed, and take part in the experience. Every handshake and conversation builds Brotherhood, and even lifelong friendships.

What stands out to you when attending Reunions in different Valleys?

It’s always a great experience. I’ve attended Reunions in other Valleys, and it’s interesting to see how each one adds its own character and traditions while maintaining the same Masonic spirit that unites us all.

Have you made new friends at Reunions?

Yes! Making friends at Reunions comes naturally. We already share the bond of being Scottish Rite Masons, so there’s always common ground to start a meaningful conversation.

Closing Reflection

For Brother Roberts, Reunion season is more than a time to witness degrees; it’s an opportunity to strengthen connections and celebrate what it means to be part of something enduring. Each gathering is a reminder that Brotherhood, once formed, continues to grow with every shared experience.
